Smita Srinivas presents interim reports from taskforce deliberations at the ‘People, Planet & Prosperity Global Policy Forum’ on 22 and 23 June, 2021, as a Co-Chair of the Task Force on Global Health and Covid-19 alongside Lead Co-Chair Dr. Paola Testori Coggi. The forum is a collaboration between the Italian lead organizations for the T20 Secretariat and the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania and ISPI. ISPI (Italian Institute for International Political Studies) is the National Coordinator and Chair of the T20 Italy, with IAI (Istituto Affari Internazionali) as the T20 Co-Chair and Bocconi University as the T20 Summit Co-Chair.

ODTU-TEKPOL’s online pizza seminars, 28 May, 2021

Smita Srinivas spoke at the Middle East Technical University’s Science and Technology Policy community on on May 28, 2021. The talk titled “Will Economics’ Soul-Searching Rock the Foundations of S&T policy?” was invited by ODTU-TEKPOL’s online pizza seminars to a community of scholars. ODTU-TEKPOL is Turkey’s leading research and education center on technology and innovation policy.

Prof. Smita Srinivas co-organised a global two-day workshop on ‘The Future of Economics’ to showcase a community of innovative thinking in the discipline. Held virtually on 26-27 May 2021, and co-hosted by the  National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS-TIFR), The Open University, and TCLab (Technological Change Lab), with Thapar University and its liberal arts program, the workshop was intended to encourage innovative rethinking of the history of economics and its applications today. The panelists included a number of eminent global speakers in the field of economics, with topics from institutional and evolutionary economics, behavior, structural, and developmental perspectives. With over 200 people at its peak attendance and excellent feedback from both senior and early career scholars and students, the Future of Economics workshop has created a first foundational effort for productive conversations among specialists.

At Innogen Institute’s Annual Meeting, Smita Srinivas gave the keynote presentation titled ‘The What, When, How of Policy for Technological Capabilities’.

Chris Freeman Centenary Lecture, 07 Apr 2021

Prof. Srinivas was invited to speak at the Chris Freeman centenary lecture Series on ‘Innovation Systems: Foundations, Evolution, Development and Global South’.

Christopher Freeman is the founder of modern Innovation Studies. His influence on the field has been phenomenal. The online lecture series organized by CRIS-IS.ORG is a tribute to Freeman, in his birth centenary year. Read more about it here


Institute for Social Studies, Erasmus University, The Netherlands, 02 March, 2021

As part of the Development Research Seminar series, on 2nd March, Professor Smita Srinivas discussed her research on Economic theories and practice of directing innovation in cancer care and COVID-19.

Srinivas examined several cases of technological innovation at different levels of complexity from an institutional perspective including her current experience of working in multidisciplinary teams to formulate response mechanisms to COVID-19. The presentation was followed by a highly engaged Q&A round. The session drew active participation from the ISS PhD community and Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa. The session was chaired by ISS Associate Professor Georgina Gomez.
